Doc’s Interview: Artist Wayne McNeil

Posted on 23 October 2009 by Valso

Doc: Tell us about the Book Fair.

WM: Book Fair is a trunk show style show featuring Handmade Books.  The Books offered at Book Fair will be diverse in style and really inviting…perfect gifts for the Holidays.

Doc: What is next for the Paper Wasp?

WM: Up next at The Paper Wasp is “The Art of Function” which will be our Nov-Dec Exhibit.
The Show will feature functional Ceramics, Glass, Books, Weaving, and Wearable Art by Local and Regional Artist.  It will be a wonderful exploration of the world of functional art and Fine Craft!

Doc: What led you to open the Paper Wasp?

WM: The Paper Wasp was a long term goal of mine since college which was accelerated by
Vikki’s decision to go back to the studio and make Ceramics.  I felt that 306 Dauphin street had more to say artistically and decided to take the helm and bring Mobile- The Paper Wasp Gallery and Bindery. It is a true dream come true to have an art space in town which features Bookbinding at the forefront of it’s mission.  In the upcoming year we have many exciting exhibits including “Peter and The Wolf” (early spring). I want The Paper Wasp to be full of wimsy and life for downtown Mobile!

Doc: Thank you.
