Doc interviews Fairhope author C. Terry Cline:
Doc: What combination of factors or events led you to write on the subject matter that you do?
TC: Death, especially violent death, is the most traumatic occurrence in the affairs of mankind. I witnessed a murder when I was a child (a man cut the throat of a woman and I happened to be passing by when she came out and sat on her front steps trying to staunch the flow of blood with her bare hands. Dying took several minutes. Meantime, the man — I assume he was her husband — stomped around angrily denouncing her for whatever made him angry enough to kill her.) Thereafter, I have always been interested in what creates a criminal and what makes them do the things they do. Writing suspense is very difficult. Only a few writers do it well. I wanted to be one of the best in the field. It took 25 years to learn how.
Doc: Which one book of yours would you recommend to Coastal Alabamans as an introduction to your work?
TC: This is like asking which of my babies do I love the most. My wife says MISSING PERSONS a novel based on serial killer Ted Bundy’s personality. It’s available on Kindle and Mobipocket.com and iPhoneApps. We’re putting all of our books on these outlets henceforth, including our newest novels.
Doc: What is your favorite work?
TC: My favorite work is THE ATTORNEY CONSPIRACY. If you want to know what went wrong with America, read this one.
Doc: What is your next project?
TC: I’m working on a book I hope is humorous, titled SAVE ANY BUSINESS, a tongue in cheek peek at saving your livelihood. I say I “hope” it’s humor, because I am married. My first wife, Linda Cline, and my now-and-forevermore-wife, Judith Richards, have not laughed at a word I’ve said since 1959, and 1979 respectively.
Doc: Any advice for Coastal Alabaman writers?
TC: Learn plumbing. You’ll make more money, and you’ll always be welcome even with muddy boots on a shag carpet. However, if you insist on writing, do it because you love it, and don’t give up. Persistence is the key to eventual success. And if you write, our sympathies are with you. It isn’t easy, but when you finally get published, it’s the most gratifying thing imaginable.
Doc: Thank you Mr. Cline
TC: Love and hugs all.
