If I mentioned the name “Downtown Creative Wellness Foundation” (I’ll refer to them as “Creative Wellness” for short), it may not ring a bell. However, if I mentioned the really scary Haunted Hospital or friggin’ awesome Haunted Fashion Show that happened downtown in recent months, that might just spark your memory. Well, the Creative Wellness folks are at it again with “The Future…or something” New Years Extravaganza. If you’re into local art, fashion, robots, film, eclectic live music, or just a laid-back good time, even if you already have New Year’s plans, stop by the Temple at the corner of N. Claiborne and St. Francis streets before you reach your intended destination – they’ll be open from the afternoon, with displays including local wellness practitioners, arts and crafts boutique, and a silent art auction. Check out the full list on the Facebook event page.
Some highlights:
- You may have seen Seduction Bomb’s “Silent Night” video circulating the internet over the holiday season. There’s a link if you missed it. Check out this rad local electroacoustic band (possibly my current favorite local band) New Year’s Eve at the Temple along with The Port Wine Stain and Sunshine Factory!
- ROBOTS!! Early in the day, starting at around 2 p.m., members of the Davidson High School RobotEx team will be demonstrating their 2009-2010 BEST robot. DHS RobotEx did well at both the local and regional levels of BEST competition, and will be going to the first ever national BEST Robotics competition in April.
Here’s is last year’s DHS RobotEx robot. To see this year’s (which is way cooler, in my opinion), you’ll have to come down to the Temple on New Years Eve!
