ModBlogs: Short and Sweet (and Sour.)

a post Mardi Gras treat from Mod Vowel

How powerful is Mod Vowel’s complaining? The squeaky wheel gets the oil is the old saying.

Mod Vowel’s outrage over what is happening to Birmingham didn’t save Live 100.5 , but it did open up some folks eyes. But what about when Mod Vowel complained about the lack of local acts on the Hangout Fest bill? Next thing you know, El Cantador, Roman Street  and Kristy Lee and on the line up. Did Mod Vowel bring this about? Who knows? But if the squeaking was heard, hear this.

What about the bands in Pensacola? The local bands that play over here in our venues. Mobile artists play in Pensacola. Why not book some Pensacola bands to play  Hangoutfest. That just makes good sense. You know a lot of ticket sales are going to come from Florida, so why not throw a couple of their local bands on some stages to share in the local flavor of things?

Mod Mobilian has featured one prominent Pensacola band, Johnny Apple Eyes, on it’s website. And they play Mobile fairly often. What about throwing them on the bill, Hangout Fest? Or the Gills? Or Chainsaw Kelly?  It’s just something to think about . . .

Now, because Doc called me out on the local restaurant thing, I want to throw my two cents in. I wouldn’t have said anything, because I am supposed to stick to music, but he called me out. I gotta  answer that call.

A lot of you want a PF Chang’s. Frankly, it puzzles me. Maybe because I have had some friends that worked for PF Chang’s. You see, Mod Vowel always has the inside track. You don’t want a PF Chang’s. Mod Vowel would be way happy to support a push for a WeMo location of Serda’s Coffee. Or an Eastern Shore branch of The Blind Mule. But a PF Chang’s, or as Mod Vowel’s friend calls it, CHANGer’s, really Mobile? Really? CHANGer’s is so corporate. If Mobile is to get one, stick it out by the interstate. We have so many ridiculously good local eatery’s that we should support first and foremost before we start begging some large corporate chain to come in and feed us. Mod Vowel has told you about the suits before. Suits are bad. Big Corporations. Bad. Suits. Bad. Bad. Bad. Bad.

Local restaurants are owned by locals, hire locals, buy local produce, buy local advertising…see how this works?

Mod Vowel is a firm believer in locally owned anything, a shoe shop or a hot dog stand.

Mod Vowel- The crabby Mobile music blogger teetering on the brink of elitism. Or whatever.
