God forbid – the Infirmary CEO only made $5 million last year – they obviously need more taxpayer money.
Meanwhile – Sen. Richard Shelby was named a ‘Porker of the Month’ by Citizens Against Government Waste for his support of the pork-laden appropriations bill. Another win! www.cagw.org
Jeff Poor of Lagniappe says: “It would be nice to see Shelby follow in the footsteps of his colleague Sen. Jeff Sessions and not completely quit cold turkey, but tamp down on the desire for pork.”
We disagree – if the Republicans really want to be taken seriously as fiscally responsible then they should get rid of these dinosaurs and quit the pork. That attitude is completely inconsistent with conservative fiscal responsibility and getting the federal government out of our local affairs. Some may say it’s “unrealistic” but the fact is some Representatives are already getting elected with zero earmarks. The American citizenry realizes Washington is involved with all this stuff they should have nothing to do with – but the politicians like Shelby and Bonner continue to mosey down the business-as-usual primrose path. Meanwhile, those of us under 40-years-old will have to give up most of our income to taxes to pay for their spending on this good-old-boy crap today.
Everyone knows we are spending ourselves into a serious problem – but no one wants to be the first to elect politicans who will give up the pork and cut entitlements. Is there a solution?
Only if an entire party (doesn’t matter to us which) has the courage to commit to it. We will wait with bated breath for that to happen.
