The American Basketball Asociation (ABA) today announced that it will return to Alabama with the addition of the Mobile Bay Hurricanes starting in the new season in December.
“We have always wanted to fuse music with sports,” said Joe Newman, ABA CEO. “And with Roland Turner and Mike Wilson, that will certainly happen. And their entertainment company will have an impact on the entire ABA. when we unfold the entertainment part of this relationship. We are excited.”
The team will be owned by Global Music Group, the record label founded by Roland Turner who now partners with Mike Wilson. Roland is a native of Mobile and is a professional musician who has toured with some of the greatest artists of our time. He is also a producer and accomplished studio musician having recorded on over 300 albums. Mike, also a native of Mobile, has owned 14 night clubs and many other area businesses and is “a leader in the local business community”. “We love basketball and we love music,” stated Turner. “And when we first spoke with Joe Newman about bringing a new level of entertainment to the ABA, we had no idea that we would do a team. And then, Mike and I thought, “Why not?” We’re going to make our team something very special here – and we’ll bring our approach to entertainment to all ABA teams.”
