Mod Mobilian interviews Mobile author Carolyn Haines whose novel Bone Appetit is being released today 6/22.
MM: Ms. Haines tell us about Bone Appetit.
CH: BONE APPETIT is the 10th in the Bones series, and it starts out with Sarah Booth Delaney, amateur private investigator, recovering from a terrible emotional loss. She and Tinkie go to Greenwood, Mississippi for some R&R and get caught up in the Miss Viking Range beauty pageant/spokesperson contest. But the stakes are high for some of the contestants, and it appears one young woman will do anything to win, even murder. Sarah Booth and Tinkie are hired to prove that Hedy Lamarr Blackledge is not a murderess.
MM: What inspired Bone Apetit?
In this outing of the Zinnia, Mississippi gang, I wanted to really have some fun. GREEDY BONES had a more serious turn. When I started writing I had an idea for a scene involving a box of chocolates which seemed perfect for this story. I do love Greenwood, Mississippi and the Alluvian Hotel. I’ve always wanted to take some cooking classes at the Viking Cooking School, but I fear I would be about as inept as Sarah Booth. You can find out a lot of information about the cooking school and read the first chapter of BONE APPETIT on my website www.carolynhaines.com.
MM: What’s next?
BONE APPETIT goes on sale Tuesday, June 22. And I’m finishing the next book in the series, BONES OF A FEATHER. I’ll head out to do some booksignings beginning this weekend, and then I hope to have some time to work on a special project about Alabama.
I have a couple of ideas for books that I really want to write, it’s just a matter of finding the time. Man, it sure does fly.
MM: Thank you Ms. Haines.
