A year ago, University of Mobile President Mark Foley did an assessment of the Southern Baptist-affiliated school he has led for 12 years and realized he had accomplished all of his goals.
[...] But a new goal soon emerged, he said, and it wasn’t something that would affect only the university. It was a little bigger than that. Foley said his idea was to transform the cultural and spirituality of America.
From that idea emerged the University of Mobile Center for Leadership’s first project, the “twelve23 Pray Movement for America,” which calls on people to pray for the nation each day at 12:23, a.m. or p.m., from Oct. 1 through Nov. 2.
Not only do UM officials want people to pray, they want people to sign a contract pledging to make it a daily priority. “This is a rally cry for Christians and professionals,” Foley said. “My personal desire is to see this nation become a place that honors God.”
When asked why a university would take on such a role, Foley said, “Denominations aren’t doing it.”
