Mobile’s 2nd Annual Ass-Kickin’ Contest was held Sunday August 29 at MaGhee’s Grill on the Hill. 

Last year the contest was started, according to promotional material, when friends of a “man with several needs” gathered to arrange assistance and decided “he needs a good swift kick in the ass!”

“A fundraiser was arranged which included an ass-kicking contest, as in “busy as a one-legged man in an ass-kicking contest.” However the friends knew nothing about ass-kicking contest rules, so they googled it.  Although they read about John Kelly, a 34-year-old one-legged man who won an ass-kicking contest in Towanda, PA, they were unable to locate any details about the rules. Relieved, they created their own rules!”

This year’s contest was held to benefit Wilmer Hall. The ceremonial “first ass kick” was given by Councilman Reggie Copeland.

2009 Champions were:

Professional Division: J. Brown
Ladies’ Division: M. Meeks
Amateur Division: M. Slaton

In 2009, controversy arose when a competitor accused Brown of illegally wearing a toe ring during the competition, however Brown was able to retain the title.

This year, several contestants gave Brown a run for his money.  

J. Zimlich took an early lead.  Zimlich said he had been routinely training at area high schools in the off-season “for the past 10 months” and it showed.  Zimlich’s ass sailed through the air effortlessly to reach 26′5″.  In contrast, Brown’s ass sagged, reaching only 23′.

Zimlich was not without his detractors, however.  “Zimlich needs to take his Australian soccer-style junk back up North,” remarked a competitor.

Final scores were not available at press time, however thousands of dollars were raised successfully for Wilmer Hall.
