Dr. George Crozier at Sierra Club Meeting Today 9/7 – 5 Rivers

on Tuesday evening, September 7th, at 7:00 p.m.

 

The September 7th program of the Mobile Bay Group Sierra Club will feature a presentation with discussion by Dr. George Crozier, senior marine scientist and executive director of the Dauphin Island Sea Lab.

 

Dr. George Crozier has been professionally involved with coastal zone issues in the northern Gulf of Mexico for over 30 years. The Dauphin Island Sea Lab continues to partner in programs involving Coastal Resource Management, Natural and Man-Made Hazard Mitigation, Environmental Science, Coastal Development, Ecotourism, Habitat Loss, Restoration, Sustainable Development, Biological Oceanography, Law and Social Sciences, through The Northern Gulf Institute, Mississippi-Alabama Sea Grant and the Mobile Bay National Estuary Program.

 

Dr. Crozier will discuss the environmental impact of the BP oil disaster. The sea lab, located at the mouth of Mobile Bay, is directly impacted by the dispersed oil. Monitoring the short-term and long-term effects of the dispersed oil on marine life and the coast will be discussed.

 

Dr. Crozier briefed Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement Director, Michael Bromwich, on the enormous uncertainty of the use of dispersants and the long-term impact, at a forum held in Mobile on August 17. Dr. Crozier will also be covering the information that he presented to Director Bromwich.
