New Years Eve Preview
by Tim Borland
The last day of the year is certainly a time for revelry and resolutions, as well as the chance of a kiss at midnight. Many Mobilians will be frequenting the excellent independent businesses around the city, whether in search of food or libations. Here is our quick guide to some of the best:
The Noble South is featuring a special New Years Eve menu for guests, featuring 5 courses and champagne for the price of $75 per person. The upscale restaurant is the perfect location for fine dining with good company. With delicious options such as speckled trout with hominy and dry aged NY Strip with turnips and black truffle sauce, patrons are sure to leave satiated. Click here for full menu and contact info
As for music entertainment, there are a number of excellent concerts in the downtown area. Alchemy Tavern will feature Gregg Fells downstairs at 7:30 p.m. and Black Irish Texas upstairs at 11 p.m. The bar features multiple areas for guests to explore, including pool tables and a spacious back porch. Alchemy will also have karaoke and a New Years Toast at midnight. Free entry before 9 p.m., afterwards there will be a $5 cover. Click here for full schedule
An excellent option for college students, The Blind Mule will host an 18 and up show on their Attic stage. Doors open at 9 p.m., with a $5 cover for those 21 and over, and $10 for everyone else. With the likes of Jaguarundi, Satan and the Sunbeams, and Commodus, there will be plenty of great music to experience. The Blind Mule is also a great inexpensive dining option for hungry partiers. Hayley’s Bar will be hosting their annual New Years Eve party, which includes free champagne at midnight. With the reputation of being the last bar to close each night, it is safe to say the party will continue at Hayley’s until the early hours of morning.
All the businesses above are independently run and need support from area residents. While ringing in the new year, make a resolution to buy local. This simple act will help 2016 be a great year for the growth of downtown Mobile.
