Stephen King in Mobile: Gerald’s Game filming in Lower Alabama

Our area must have made an impression on Mike Flanagan.  He is now taking on what is surely his most ambitious project yet, and he’s brought it back to what has become his home-away-from-home. He’s been back repeatedly for further additions to his list of -frankly masterful- horror films, ever since he filmed 2013’s Oculus in what locals in the industry often refer to as The Other LA : Lower Alabama.

Based on the 1992 suspense novel by Stephen King, Gerald’s Game is the story is about a woman who accidentally kills her husband while she is handcuffed to a bed, and, following the subsequent realization that she is trapped with little hope of rescue, begins to let the voices inside her head take over.

After Stephen King shouted out to Flanagan’s Hush on twitter, it was all but inevitable the two would find a way to work together.

Gerald’s Game is a very unique book and is considered to be Netflix’s most ambitious original to date.

No actors have yet been announced, but filming begins early October.

Will Stephen King come hang and watch the movie magic take shape? That remains to be seen.

I’ve been a big fan of Stephen King since he wrote Carrie. My favorite is the Dark Tower series that feature Roland, the last Gunslinger.
Mr. King inspired me to start writing. He is the only writer who I wish I could meet one day. I hope he does come down to Mobile, Alabama.
