The third annual Care Carnival will return to downtown Mobile on November 5, 2017. The fundraiser is for Woody’s Song, a program of The Learning Tree to benefit children with autism. This free family friendly block party will occur on Jackson Street between Dauphin and St. Francis nearby Hayley’s Bar. More information can be found at the Facebook event link below:

The no cover charity event will occur between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. with entertainment for guests to enjoy. A variety of carnival games such as cornhole, clown toss, fish for duckies, tic tac toe frogs, ring toss, street bowling, solo cup crash, surprise grab, and punch-a-hole will be available for all to play for free with donations encouraged. There will even be a pie booth for those needing to blow off some steam by hurling some pastries. Mobilians like Mobile advocate Darwin Singleton, Matt McCoy, Hayley’s owner Delane Bond, and Southsounds cofounder Emily Hayes will brave the booth this year.

Woody’s Song is a tuition-based day program for elementary age children on the autism spectrum that operates year-round. By increasing skills in the areas of language, socialization, and cognitive skills while decreasing behaviors that interfere with learning, the service helps children with autism learn to take pride in themselves and their work. Brittany Mistich, an employee of Hayley’s Bar, works with the children at Woody’s Song and saw a need to create an event to aid and sustain the program.

“I’m extremely grateful that our community has been such a great source of kindness and support for Woody’s Song through our Care Carnival event. Three years have flown by since we started and I couldn’t be more proud of its growth and the volunteers that help make it possible. It speaks volumes about Mobile and how big our citizens hearts are to help us raise thousands of dollars,” Mistich shared.

Mobile community should be inspired by all the selfless effort Mistich has dedicated towards such a positive cause. Area businesses and community leaders are all joining together to make this block party a big success. Now all that remains is for other Mobilians to show their compassion and support by attending Care Carnival 2017. Donating to Woody’s Song will enable children with unique educational needs within the Mobile community to not only gain the resources which improve their chances of success, but foster positive self-worth as well.
