About the book:

Kevin Lee’s best columns from Lagniappe and Mod Mobilian over the last 10 years.

Subjects include: fame, Mardi Gras. Mobile’s art community, Priest, The Blind Mule, Tahrir Square, Alice Napolitano, SCV, Government St., the Creole Coast, Mark Twain, jazz, muses, Proust, Ken Burn’s The War, Jack Kerouac, Bird, Lil Greenwood, Amy Winehouse, The Sopranos, football, Capote, Christmas, and more…

Close to a decade ago, a new writer emerged in Mobile, courtesy of a recently launched alternative newspaper named Lagniappe. His name was Kevin Lee and in the years that followed, he developed a reputation for provocative tones and subjects, often saying what was thought but rarely expressed for fear of bridging cultural taboos.

When Mod Mobilian was formed in 2009, they intended to be a cultural flashpoint and gave Lee space to express himself beyond the parameters of his customary journalistic contributions. True to form, Lee didn’t disappoint with pointed observations and surprising turns of thought.

Now Mod Mobilian enters a new era of cultural facilitation by launching a publishing house to give voice to Mobile’s underrepresented literary crowd. Naturally, they’ve made Lee their first venture with an anthology of his most attention-grabbing columns. The range of subjects spans moods, seasons, years and continents but always comes home to roost beside Mobile Bay.

About the Author:

Originally from Birmingham, Ala., Kevin Lee attended the University of South Alabama and Auburn University. An eclectic list of former roles includes captain and president of collegiate and semi-pro football clubs, sportswriter for university athletics, graphic artist, motion picture set designer, congressional campaign aide, musician, cook/chef and radio announcer.
A longtime jazz enthusiast, Lee initiated the Mystic Order of the Jazz Obsessed (or MOJO), a Mobile-based jazz society, in 2001 and hosted a local jazz radio program for two years on WHIL.
Lee is an award-winning freelance writer, serving as an associate editor and arts editor for the Mobile newspaper Lagniappe and a columnist for Mod Mobilian, a website devoted to Mobile’s cultural scene.
He lives with his wife Mary Ellen and ever-growing herd of pets in midtown Mobile.
