Mod Mobilian meets a Saucy Wench and a Mistress on Joe Cain Day

Posted on 09 March 2011 by Valso

Mod Mobilian gave a now-former reporter a seemingly easy task – to infiltrate the Joe Cain Procession and do a video interview with Joe Cain himself. We are sorry to report he failed miserably.   Here was his excuse:

saucy2

“Well first off, I posed as a marcher with Les Chats Sauvages.  I was making my way up to Joe Cain himself in the Pre-Parade Line-up near the Civic Center, when I bumped into this big  pirate named “Mojo”.  He proceded to explain that he was a member of Dauphin Street Drunks (aka Drunks of Dauphin Street or DSD) and a bit about his organization.  Shortly after he acquainted me with a lovely young lady named “Saucy Wench,” and we got into an extended conversation about their initiation ceremony.  Unfortunately, I cannot reveal the details of which because she said the pirates’ penalty for spreading such secrets would be to cut my tongue out, and I certainly would not want that. But it did involve a swimming pool at a local B&B.

Before I knew it the procession was moving and I was really trying to get up to the coal cart to interview Joe Cain.  But right behind the coal cart were these exceedingly beautiful young ladies who called themselves the “Mistresses of Joe Cain.”  Intrigued, I entered into conversation with a particularly striking young Mistress, who I think said her name was “Scarlett,” but that could have been someone else.  Next thing I know I am pulling a Mistress in my little red wagon.  Although the Mistresses are perfectly figured, combined with the weight of my throws it slowed me down considerably.  Unfortunately, I had to leave the procession early because of medical needs and was unable to speak with Mr. Cain.”

“Scarlett”? (P-R)

We have since learned that:

  1. Despite Mod Mobilian’s strict rules against ethanol consumption while on company business, said correspondent and his krewe had a secret compartment “full of Abita & screwdrivers” in their wagon (and we don’t mean the Phillips-head type).
  2. The video he shot (which we are completely ashamed of the quality of – see below) becomes progressively disoriented during the procession, which we believe is evidence of #1.
  3. Apparently, he sought attention for his “medical needs” at The Garage.

Best Live Performances of 2010 Part 2

Posted on 30 December 2010 by Valso

Yes, we are a bunch of sentimental saps, but also want to make sure our newer readers saw all these great performances:

ufo2

Underhill Family Orchestra bound onto the world stage on the Mod Mobilian Show in October:

Lisa Mills showed why she is the best on the Mod Mobilian Show in September:

Of course we have to mention the Bay City Brass Band’s performance at Mod Mobilian’s Birthday Party at Alabama Music Box. Here is the previously unposted “Funky Stuff”.

James Copeland and Skylar Gail gave several strong performances (Part 1 & Part 2) – those from the Birthday Party to be posted shortly.

Lastly, who can forget the beautiful performance Adam Taylor gave for Emily Hayes…and the surprise appearance by Sir William Masters?

New Mobile CD: Edward Appleby (with Interview and Video)

Posted on 15 December 2010 by Mailer-Daemon

appleby

Edward Appleby’s self-titled EP went on sale yesterday.

Although our request for a personal interview could not be fulfilled, we did communicate with Mr. Appleby through his spokesperson and he issued the following statement:

“My self-titled EP is, in as few words, a short collection of music and songs meditating on the themes of self-awareness and introspective identification.

The EP begins tentatively, the tension of the coiled cadences in “Introduction” begin to slowly unravel into an outpouring emotional ascendance. A journey rife with self-fulfilling prophecies and other pitfalls of ego-naut, the EP culminates in the haunting and cathartic “Yester Dénouement,” whereby I finally find peace; just man and guitar. Have I found myself? Probably not, but at least the wolves have stopped howling.

It is with great pleasure that I can postpone my inevitable death with the release of my first EP.

I am currently hard at work on my next EP, along with scoring a film. I will soon release “Lo, the snow in the chimney froze!,” an excerpt from my multi-movement Christmas epic (slated for release in December, 2011).”

MOJO Honors Peggy Lee (Video)

Posted on 27 July 2010 by Valso

The turnout at Monday night’s MOJO Jazz Jambalaya was phenomenal.

Singer Angie Powers was the star of the show and certainly channeled the purrrringly seductive Ms. Lee.

She was backed by guitarist Jim Armstrong, drummer Jimmy Roebuck, bassist Jo Jo Morris, and saxophonist Sandy Spivey.

WKRG’s John Nodar MC’d with facts about Peggy Lee’s life.

Please take a minute to see what talent we have in the Port City.

EXCLUSIVE PREVIEW of Mod Mobilian’s Eddie Curran “Governor of Goat Hill” Video Series

Posted on 26 July 2010 by Valso

Since its existence was revealed on a radio program (the “Uncle Henry Show”) last week there has been a public clamor for a preview of Mod Mobilian’s video series based Eddie Curran’s “The Governor of Goat Hill.”

We will acquiesce with a ROUGH CUT.

In this video series we will break down the complexities of the Siegelman case in an understandable and entertaining way.

The homey milieu (lighting, etc.) is by Mr. Curran’s choice – informal and relaxed. His wish is to record his slide show for posterity.

We preview “The House Sale” – based on Siegelman’s $250,000 sale of his Montgomery house (which was appraised at $125,000 at the time and later sold for $10) to Wray Pearce, the accountant for trial lawyer Lanny Vines.

This is a more earnest episode – but just wait until we get to 60 minutes and the national media’s treatment of the story.

Addendum: Thank you to those of you who have given feedback. You need STILL MORE EXCITEMENT. (In all fairness LLCs are tough to make exciting.) Mr. Curran’s intent was to present his slide show – but we hope with your feedback to take it ON LOCATION (M’gmery, B’Ham) for YET MORE ACTION. So, the series will be delayed for several more weeks.
